An Update from Fr. Paul - Wednesday, September 16

Yesterday, almost 200 priests and parish directors participated in a ZOOM meeting with the bishop and some diocesan center department heads.  The following are highlights:

• The synod fifth anniversary celebration has been moved to June 5, 2021.
• For information on applying Catholic Social Principles to voting, go to www.wisconsincatholic.org/faithful-citizenship. It was stressed that the Catholic Church does NOT forbid voting for any candidate; one is to use the Social Principles to make an informed decision (no candidate’s positions are a perfect fit for all the principles).
• Starting around Thanksgiving, a diocesan-wide initiative for Sunday Mass will begin.  It will have three goals:
  • Emphasize Sunday as a family day/day of rest.
  • Urge people to return to Mass, especially those who have been away a long time.
  • Reiterate our Catholic belief in the Real Presence.

I presume that our Formation and Evangelization Commission will be charged with leading this initiative in our parish.
