There are many opportunities at St. Pius X to become involved in the music ministry of the parish. If you enjoy singing or playing an instrument, there is a place for you. We all lead very busy lives and so most of our music groups have fairly flexible schedules. Even if you are not able to commit to participating in the groups every week you are welcome to come join us as often as you can.
If you would like to join one of our groups or would like to learn more about them please contact Kathy Wellenstein, Director of Liturgy & Music at 414-453-3875 ext. 14 or [email protected].
Cantors
Singers who have the desire and the ability to assist and encourage the community in song are needed for each of the parish’s liturgies. Besides supporting the community in it's participation, the cantor has the special role of leading the psalm during the Liturgy of the Word.
Cantors are scheduled according to their availability. Rehearsals are held monthly.
Celebration Singers
This is the adult choir which provides the music ministry at one of our liturgies each weekend from September through May. The choir strives to enhance the music of our celebrations through its singing and spirit, and hopes, thereby, to encourage enthusiastic community participation. Membership is open to adults and high school age youth who love to sing and have a willingness to give of their time and energy to this important ministry.
Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30 pm.
For the Christmas and Holy Week liturgies, membership is opened up to anyone who would like to participate in the choir but is not able to make a weekly commitment for the entire year.
Instrumentalists
Instrumentalists are used to add a special festive quality to our celebrations. They are most desirable on grand occasions, such as Christmas and Easter, but they can also be very effective in adding a wonderful touch to each Sunday’s liturgy. There is a real need, as well as many opportunities for growth in this area of our music program.
Jammin 4 Jesus
Church choir meets pop/rock band - that's Jammin 4 Jesus. This group provides a ministry of contemporary music which combines the music of your lifestyle with the message of your faith. The group is open to anyone high school age or older. The core instrument section includes keyboard, bass, guitar and drums. Singers and instrumentalists are welcome.
Generally, Jammin 4 Jesus provides the music once a month from September through June at one of our weekend liturgies.
Practices are held three times a month. Even if you can only contribute your talent for 1 month out of a year, your contribution will be appreciated.
Resurrection Singers
This group is comprised of men and women who provide music ministry at the funerals of our parishioners. It is a wonderful, faith-filled way to give support and comfort to those who are experiencing grief and loss. The group is loosely structured and members participate on the occasions when they are available to do so.
When a funeral is scheduled, each member is contacted with pertinent information. The group then meets a half hour prior to the funeral to rehearse.
